Course Materials

 

What are digital course materials?

Digital course materials are educational content such as eBooks, access codes, homework platforms, and other digital assets that are becoming more common in post-secondary education.

You purchase a license to access this type of content. These materials are often used alongside a textbook as supplemental material. More publishers are moving to only provide digital options.

What are access codes?

Access codes are unique passwords used to access online course materials such as e-books, practice exams, videos, and course assignments, but each one varies. Each access code is unique to each individual and differs from course to course.

Access codes generally have an expiration date and cannot be used to access course materials after the course it is used for has finished.

What's included? Are they all e-books?

That depends! Each item is different. Some contain e-books. Others give access to a learning platform without an e-book, and some provide both.

It's important to check what the item says about e-book or platform access before you buy.

What's the difference between an e-book and an access code?

An e-book is the digital version of a textbook. 

An access code is a course-specific password used to gain access to course content online. This often includes e-books, practice exams, videos, and course assignments, but each one varies.

How long will I have access?

It varies. Each publisher sets rules for each digital item. Access generally lasts between 6 months and 2 years, with a few offering lifetime access. We do our best to ensure that the information is clear before you purchase, but if you have questions please contact us

Can I print my e-book?

Usually, no, or not in full. Publishers place limits on how much of their e-books you can print.

Can I access my digital materials offline?

It depends on the publisher. Many have platforms that allow offline access, but some don't.

If you have questions about your code, please contact us and we'll solve it together.

What if I prefer a physical copy?

Most courses still offer a physical textbook option. However, more courses are moving to digital-only. If a print book isn't available for your course and you're concerned about your options, talk with your instructor. We bring in the materials you need based on their recommendations. 

How do I determine which print or digital textbooks and course materials are required for my courses?

Students are able to view all required print textbooks and course materials for their winter classes by visiting our textbook search page and entering their course and section codes. A list of required print materials will automatically be populated for you. Please note that textbook prices are subject to change.

Some courses also require digital course materials like e-books or access codes. Please visit the access codes / e-books (online) page and enter your course code to purchase any required digital course materials.

How can I purchase my eBooks/access codes online?

Can access codes be returned?

No, access codes are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged. All access code sales are final. Please verify required access codes with your course instructor or syllabus prior to purchasing.

Can I share or sell my access code after the course is complete?

No, every access code is unique and can only be registered with one user. At the end of your course, your access code will expire, revoking your access to the course materials.

I'm having trouble activating my access code and accessing course materials. What should I do?

Students encountering difficulties accessing course materials via a purchased access code should contact the publisher. Support websites for common access code publishers are listed below:

In Store Pick-Up

Can I pick-up my online order in person?

Yes. Just choose the in store pick up option under shipping at checkout.

In-store shopping is also available at our physical location during regular business hours.

When will my order be ready?

In Store pick up orders usually take around 2-3 business days to process. You will be notified via separate emails, one when your order has begun processing and one when your order is ready for pick up.

Please wait to pick up your order until you receive the email confirming that your order is ready for pick up.

Where do I go to pick up my order?

Orders can be picked up at the TMU Campus Bookstore.

What do I need to pick up my order?

In order to pick up your order from the store you will need either your student ID or a government-issued photo ID.

Can my friend/roommate/parent pick up the items I ordered for me?

Yes. Please contact the Bookstore to inform us the name of the person who will be picking up your order. Please give your order number and student ID number so that they can confirm your order.

 

Shipping & Returns

What is the Campus Store’s policy regarding refunds and exchanges?

Information about our refund and exchange policies can be found on our return policy page.

Please note that the Campus Store is unable to provide refunds or exchanges on textbooks and course books. All e-books and access codes are final sale. 

 

Payment

What payment methods does the Campus Store accept for online orders?

We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express. We are unable to accept debit cards or credit notes on online orders.

What do I do if I have just received a notification stating that my card, used for an online order, was declined – Why did this happen, and how do I fix it?

There are a few different reasons as to why your card may have been declined:

1) Either the numbers or the expiry date on your card were typed in wrong;

2) You have used a Visa Debit card

3) Your card is not setup for online orders;

4) Your card has been flagged as possibly stolen.

My credit card info is wrong. Can you fix it?

For security reasons the Bookstore does not collect credit card information and therefore we cannot change the payment method or info. You will need to call us to cancel your order and resubmit your order online.

 

Used Textbooks & Book Buy Back

Are used textbooks available for sale?

Every effort is made to provide used textbooks for as many classes as possible. It is recommended that students shop early to view the best selection of used textbooks on hand. Used textbooks are 25% less than new textbooks.

Does the Campus Store have a used textbook buyback program?

Our used textbook buyback program has been temporarily suspended. Please visit the buyback page of our website for more information.

 

Online Ordering

When I place an order online, when will I be charged?

You will only be charged after we have completed your order. Before this point, you have not been charged for anything. Again, once the order has been fully processed, you will be charged.

How will I receive items I’ve ordered online from the Campus Store website?

The Campus Store is able to ship online orders within Canada, the United States and internationally. We require approximately three to five business days between when you place your online order and when it will be processed for shipment. Please order all required course materials for fall 2022 classes as early as possible to avoid shipping delays. 

Can I place an order with the Campus Store over the phone?

Our staff are unable to place orders over the phone. 

What do I do when I experience technical issues on the website?

Email us! Include a screenshot and copying the URL of the page where you experienced the error will greatly help identify and expedite resolution. Let us know the steps you took right up until the error and the time you experienced the error. Please also include any other pertinent information that might help with resolution. The more information, the better!

Is the Campus Store open for in-person shopping?

Yes. However, we recommend that all orders for textbooks, course books, e-books and access codes for fall 2022 classes be submitted online via our website as early as possible to avoid shipping delays.

What is the easiest way to get in touch with someone at the University Bookstore?

The quickest and easiest way is via email. You can also call us.

I called but got the answering machine. What information should I leave for the Bookstore to help me?

As a rule of thumb, as much as possible. Key info is your name, number, order number, name of book/course, etc. Messages that only have your phone number will not be returned.
